FASHION AND REGENERATION:
THE MADE IN BERMONDSEY PROJECT
January 2020 - December 2020
Made in Bermondsey is a community campaign led by Blue Bermondsey BID with local charity Big Local Works and Community Opportunity. They successfully secured the £2m capital funding from the Mayor of London’s LEAP Good Growth Fund, supported by Southwark Council. In 2020 Colèchi worked with Made in Bermondsey to build a community fashion makerspace in a meanwhile space.
In a series of digital talks, we looked at garment production, workers and delivery—the Image of Sustainability and the changing expectations of influencers, media and marketing. And finally, the afterlife and a concept of returning used clothing to brands.
For a long time, the mainstream conversation around self-care has been
geared to women, with terms like ‘sisterhood’ coming to light and
campaigns and memes to help women better take care of themselves.
However, we must make the topic of self-care genderless and allow eachother to discuss the ‘elephant in the room’ topics affecting
fashion such as burnout, unfair pay, feelings, and trauma in a shameless environment to challenge our unconscious biases.
MEN + WOMEN
On 12th June 2019, we created a space for independent creatives in the fashion and art world to discuss how gender plays a part in mental health. We invited activist and model Hélène Selam Klein, artist JEMIMASAA, entrepreneur, King Cas Ajani and Michael Edward, co-founder of Create Space etreat and a freelance Creative Consultant.
