Circularity isn’t just a concept to apply during the design process. We’ve thought about ways that we can reuse and circulate content too. Thinking back to our days at university, we realised that students work very hard on their dissertations, only for it to end up collecting dust years after graduation.
Introducing: diss.course by Colèchi, a platform inviting alumni and graduates to create new conversations that stem from past and recent studies in order to accelerate inclusive and forward-thinking change in fashion education and practice.
A majority of written final year projects are often left unused, unread and undiscussed – yet the nature of these pieces are birthed from new ideas and concepts, backed by current research. Diss.course makes new concepts accessible through short articles shared amongst academics, students, designers and professionals. Building a strong interdisciplinary community and creating more prospects for students post-graduation.
Diss.course has three sub-categories: people, planet, and technology. So far, submissions have covered a wide range of topics and have included the themes of: identity, culture, religion, digital fashion, biomaterials, and politics – just to name a few. Diss.course is looking for a broad range of topics, so fill out our survey to get involved.
We are on a mission to create opportunities for contributing authors; for example, we invited diss.course participants to take part in our aGREENculture event at Somerset House – Ioana Pop spoke about digital fashion during our fashion education panel, and Ana-Maria Dragieva did a demo on the process of making Alginate ‘Yarn’ Strings from home (pictured below). Five other contributors have also taken part in Instagram lives with us, showcasing their ideas on our social media platform.
If you are fed up with the same narrative and have a new way of thinking – let’s connect? Did you write about fashion, sustainability, culture or other similar topics at university? Then, we want to hear from you!
