YKWU x Saatchi Gallery: Designers at Work

In collaboration with Cadogan. Curated by Orsola de Castro. Art Directed by Matthew Needham

Cadogan announces ‘Designers at Work’ and Sustainability Showcase hosted in Chelsea as part of London Fashion Week’s ‘Citywide Celebration’. Colèchi were excited to bring our knitting club YKWU (You Knit With Us) to the Saatchi Gallery as part of the showcase curated by Orsola de Castro and art directed by multi-award winning artist and designer Matthew Needham. ‘Designers at Work’ was a series of brief encounters, a chance to meet truly revolutionary designers and be inspired to bring elements of each designers techniques into the publics wardrobe. It was a chance for the public to get hands-on inspiration from the pioneers who are changing the way fashion is made and worn.

We invited Christine and Alice Thompson to lead the knitting demonstrations and invited the public to grab a piece of yarn, knit a square or complete a project with a showcase from some of our favourite knitwear designers from our collective including Crochet Cookey and Emily Lamb.

Orsola comments, “At a time when looking for solutions is imperative to mitigate climate change, we are here to remind you that the road to circularity demands longevity, and that your journey starts with your wardrobe. The workshops will provide an inspiring, joyful and meaningful way to begin. Loved clothes last!”

Other highlights during the day include a ‘Stitch and Bitch’ session, a single-use plastic free Food Market featuring sustainable food pioneers at Duke of York Square and brand activations from over 20 neighbourhood shops and restaurants including a pop-up sustainability ‘kiosk’ from Allbirds, ‘Stitch It Don’t Ditch It’ sessions at Brora, recycling service at Monica Vinader, sustainable fashion shows at Peter Jones and tips and techniques from The Handbag Clinic.

Chelsea, in particular the King’s Road, has long been a home for pioneering fashion creatives.
